The Vine and the Branches
1“I am a the true vine, and My Father is the vineyard keeper. 2 Every branch in Me that does not produce fruit He removes, b and He prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit. 3 You are already ▼▼clean: When something is clean, it is holy or acceptable to God. When it is unclean, it is unholy (such as an unclean spirit). The term can be used in a ritual sense to apply to moral standards for living.

9 “As the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you. Remain in My love. n 10 If you keep My commands you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commands and remain in His love. o 11“I have spoken these things to you so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. p 12 This is My command: Love one another as I have loved q you. 13No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life r for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15I do not call you ▼▼slave: The strong Greek word doulos cannot be accurately translated in English by "servant" or "bond servant"; the HCSB translates this word as "slave," not out of insensitivity to the legitimate concerns of modern English speakers, but out of a commitment to accurately convey the brutal reality of the Roman empire's inhumane institution as well as the ownership called for by Christ.
